By wearing and sharing these products with families and friends you are showing that you understand who you are and you are willing to learn more about the our modern Cuba Bella.

To learn more and understand the idea behind Cuba Bella, please read this short article I have written for you and remember CUBA BELLA.

Are Cubans all the same? Are you Cuban?

Have you ever talked to a Cuban-American? You probably have, they will tell you right away. One of the differences between a Cuban-American and a Cuban is that the Cuban wont have to tell you he is Cuban, you will noticed right away.

Now, what’s the difference between a Cuban-American and an American? Simple, the American will never tell you he is Cuban.

During the emigration of Cubans to this country (40 long years), every generation of Cubans has grown its own identity. The ones that came 40 or 50 years ago, the ones that came 10, 15 or 5 years ago and of course the “recien llegados” (just got here people). After being in this country for some years every Cuban changes depending on their way of thinking and expectations in life. Most people generalized the way we are and think we are all the same, in essence we are, but unfortunately the gap of time and experiences between all of us, makes us diverse.

It is hard to understand the differences and it’s especially hard for people who do not share our culture. Cuban-Americans, who are not really Cuban or Americans, but who seem to try to identified more with the Cuban culture, despite the big breach that separates us; tend to get confused about the newest generations of Cubans who came recently. Also Americans and other Latin-American communities have a problem identifying who we really are.

I always wanted to bring together to a better understanding of their identity some of the generations gather here in Miami. It has been very difficult to communicate to them why we are different and also why there is nothing wrong with that.

There are many reasons why Cubans are different among other Cubans. One of the biggest reasons is that Cubans are not allowed to go back to their country of birth. Once they leave, they are naturally force to start a new life. After many years you develop a different way of living and you tend to embrace the memories of your roots. While this happens, Cuba is constantly changing, years pass by and new generations are born. The past will remain in the past and memories will only be memories. You cant think that Cuba is still the same place you left, but indeed it has change, for better of for worse.

Admitting this simple reason is one of the biggest communication problems when talking to a Cuban who has lived in Miami for over 40 years. The first step to know who a Cuban, Cuban-American or simply an American is to by letting yourself know more about their culture without judging or assuming who they are. If we all do that without prejudice, it will be easy to understand where we come from and what we actually have in common.

Thanks, till the next time.
